the best puppy food

Hi Can anyone tell me the best puppy food, my baby uis 12 weeks old and i have been feeding him pedigree puppy sachets but have heard that they are not the best.

Following advice on the forum I have our Baxter (and our elderly 15yrs old terrier mix) on Burns Mini-Bites. They are both thriving.

I suppliment it with Butchers foil trays (a half tray each x twice daily)mixed with the mini-bites. They both enjoy it. When I have run out of Butchers I have tried other makes but they either turn up their noses of it scours them so I'll stick with what suit them.

Everyone is different though, it's just what works for my dogs

Quite a few of us on here feed a raw diet to our dogs mainly Natures Menu Nuggets usually found in the freezer section of a pet food outlet like Pets at Home, others are available like Natural Instinct and Darlings Real Dog Food on the internet. They come in a variety of meats chicken lamb and blended veg and fruit etc. Dont be afraid of a raw meat diet it is what nature intended our dogs to eat and if you buy ready prepared then the science and balance is done for you. If you must use a dry food then maybe go for Burns Mini Bites though this brand is mainly sold by independant pet food retailers as Mr Burns the Vet who manufactures this product will not retail in supermarkets being an ethical manufacturer , he has his own farms where he grows all his ingredients including the meat the only imported ingredient is rice which cannot grow in this country. I have used the Burns Mini Bites in the past but now I feed raw and my dog eats everthing on her plate. It is suitable to feed raw to young dogs in fact the sooner you start the better.

I also feed my two girls on Burns Mini Bites with raw mince and also untill yesterday lightly poached chicken but I am finding that the chicken gives them the runs and no one wants that. I also feed the Natures Menu nuggets and occasionally Cesar trays. They are both thriving and Burns pet foods is less than an hour away from here .They have a very good website with nutritionists to talk to on a free phone number.

Like others have suggested I would go for either the Natures Menu Nuggets if you want a raw food or Burns if you want a dried food, or, as Carol says a mixture of the two. Whatever you do decide to feed, change it gradually or you may get a puppy with an upset tummy, and that it not pleasant at all!

we feed Emily a mix of Burns mini bites with natures harvest added and she has raw natures menu nuggets in the evening. she is really thriving now getting so big and putting weight on she is 16 weeks old tomorrow.
