My New Baby!
I have become the mummy of my first shih tzu. We bought her on Saturday and is 10 weeks old and a very happy little bundle. I recently lost my JRT (10wks ago), I have had 3 Jacks and obviously no-one can replace your faithful friend when they die but felt guilty about NEEDING a dog around the house. SO..... I thought I would go for a different breed and a different experience all round, and by this I don't feel soo guilty..
Is there anything I should know - I have a book on Shih Tzus but you experienced parents will be able to tell me oodles more by your experiences.
Nice to meet you guys... Maria

Re: My New Baby!
Hi chloesmum and welcome to Shih Tzu Whispers. Congratulations on your first Shih Tzu ,Tuppence is my first Shih Tzu as well and I love her to bits . There is a lot more to these dogs than they are given credit for.I do a lot of training with my dog, Rally obedience and now would you believe Heel Work to Music. They are clever dogs if you give them a chance to shine.
So sorry to read about you losing your JRT, they do leave a gap dont they. Any way you have chosen a lovely breed to help heal that gap. Can't wait to see some photo's. Enjoy your time with us .

Re: My New Baby!
Hi and welcome to Whispers. Congratulations on your new arrival, you are in for plenty of fun and games with your new bundle, I can assure you. Don't ever feel guilty about needing a dog friend around the house. Those of us who have had to go through the awful situation of losing a fur baby know exactly how you are feeling. In my personal opinion you have done the best thing possible, you have love to give and a gorgeous new fur baby that deserves it.
The only advice I can give is enjoy it while your baby is tiny, because they grow up way too quickly. And take plenty of photos because you will soon forget what they got up to.
If you have any problems, just ask and someone will help you. We all have different experiences so can usually help with any problems. And never underestimate what a Shih Tzu can do. Under that fur they have a big brain, and when it suits them they know exactly how to use it, as we will all testify on times. Mischief is their middle name!

Re: My New Baby!
Thanks guys - It's good to know you are all there. At the moment she is playing with my husband and running around. I, on the other hand, have had to put my feet up on the sofa to stop her biting my feet! Oh yes....... we're going to hav e sooo much fun, he he.

Re: My New Baby!
Hi Friends
Are there any ailments Shih Tzus are prone to?
Also Chloe had her first injection today she has been fine and playing but the last 20 minutes shes been asleep but really yelping. Do you think it's the injection? I am assuming she is having nightmares. What do you think?

Re: My New Baby!
She is probably having a nightmare about giant needles HI maria and a very warm welcome to the forum No new puppy ever replaces your lost baby but it does give you something else to think about and your JRT would not have wanted you to go through life sad when you have so much love to share xxxx
Chloe might be a little off colour for a day or two but it usually passes OK - did the vet tell you what symptoms to look out for that might be a cause for concern??
Shih tzu puppies LOVE to bite and toes and hands are fair game - and it is so much more fun if you squiggle and squirm and cry out
Sujay is right about them growing up too quickly my newest member of my family Isabella is only 5 months and she has grown up so much.... I am missing some of those baby moments
Any problems just shout out. If you don't have the Audrey Dadds book on the Shih Tzu try and get hold of a copy (out of print now but you can usually find one on amazon or similar) - she really was the most knowledgeable person in the breed and her love of the breed shines out in her writing which sounds just like she is chatting to you xxxx

Re: My New Baby!
Hiya no doc didn't say - but just wondered. Spaniels can get ear probs, Alsations has probs with back legs so I was wondering if there was anything with fur babies.
She does now seem a bit under the weather so I will just keep my eye on her.
At least my toes are safe for a while

She is very much like your baby sarahangel but I will get some pics up soon, promise. She seems happier today I think the injection has bruised her but at least she is not yelping now.
